Born in Montreal, Émile Grou is a conductor distinguished by his inclusive leadership and profound desire for artistic excellence. In the summer of 2026, Émile was a guest conductor with the Kindred Spirits Orchestra, with whom he performed several concerts in the Toronto area, notably as part of the Collingwood Music Festival. During the 2025-2026 season, he was assistant conductor to Andrei Feher at the Orchestre classique de Montréal as part of the Kunerth-Lafond mentorship program.

 

In 2024, he obtained a specialized Master's degree in orchestral conducting from the Geneva University of Music under Laurent Gay. He previously obtained a Master's degree in conducting from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor's degree in composition from the University of Montreal.

 

In addition to his studies with Laurent Gay, Émile Grou has also participated in numerous festivals and masterclasses in Canada and abroad. He was notably selected as a promising conductor for the RBC Canadian Conductor Showcase 2025 with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He has participated in masterclasses with the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire in France, at the University of Toronto, the Geneva University of Music, and the Domaine Forget International Music Festival. In 2023, Émile was selected as assistant conductor for an opera production with Facundo Agudin at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

 

He was also invited to the Allegra Masterclass with Prof. Johannes Schlaefli and Prof. Christoph-Mathias Mueller. In this context, he received a professional development grant from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.

 

A fervent advocate of classical music, Émile has always been involved in his community, notably by presenting works during concerts of the University of Montreal Student Symphony Orchestra and by holding various positions within student associations at all the institutions where he studied.

 

Since discovering his passion for orchestral music and conducting in high school, Émile has initiated and led numerous projects and ensembles over the years. He co-founded OSÉUM in 2018, was associate conductor of the UofT Campus Philharmonic Orchestra, and organized many projects throughout his studies.
